Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Rambo: Last Blood or Rambo: The Last Mission in Quebec is an American action film directed by Adrian Grunberg, released in 2019. It is the fifth and last installment in the series of films featuring the character of former soldier and green beret John Rambo, created by David Morrell in his novel Rambo (1972).
During a torrential thunderstorm, only John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran and volunteer aid worker, manages to penetrate a forest to help lost walkers. He brings a young woman back at the risk of her life, but cannot save a couple. The feeling of guilt once again arouses in him the trauma of his past sufferings.
Rambo lives on his family ranch with Maria, an old friend, and her granddaughter, Gabrielle, an orphan of a mother and abandoned by her father. Gabrielle is about to enter the University. Rambo, he digs tunnels in order to prepare, if necessary, to protect those who are dear to him.
Gabrielle learns from a friend who went to Mexico where her father settled. Unbeknownst to her grandmother and Rambo who consider her too young for this trip, she drives there. Her father, installed with another woman, tells him that he was simply no longer interested in her or her mother, and that he no longer wishes to see her.
Depressed, Gabrielle lets herself be dragged by her friend to a nightclub, where she is drugged and abducted by henchmen from a drug cartel. Abused, she is now a prostitute considered as a simple object.
The next day, noting his absence, Rambo comes to Mexico, finds Gabrielle's friend, understands that she sold her and forces her to point out to him one of the cartel's henchmen in the nightclub. He seriously injures him in the parking lot and forces him to take him to the hideout of the gangsters. Too discreet, he is quickly surrounded by a large number of crooks, who beat him and leave him almost for dead by writing a scar on his face.
Rambo is taken in by Carmen Delgado, a journalist who has been secretly investigating the cartel since it abducted and killed his own sister. Recovered after a few days, and now better prepared with the help of Carmen, he finds Gabrielle in a brothel, also scarred. He takes her in his car, but, too weak, she dies during the journey.
From then on Rambo prepares his revenge. After having buried the young girl and made Maria leave who has no reason to stay on the ranch, he prepares him to support an assault by concealing weapons and numerous traps. Then he returned to Mexico, massacred part of the cartel, leaving a photograph of Gabrielle next to the beheaded corpse of one of her chiefs, and returned home.
As he expected, the other mobsters quickly arrived at his house. A large fight begins in a hangar and continues in the tunnel. The gangsters are slaughtered one after the other. Their leader is finally immobilized by four arrows launched by Rambo, who, as he had promised him, pierces his chest to tear out his heart. Rambo, injured, then sits on his rocking chair swearing to continue fighting.
The end credits include images of all five films in the series. The latest images of this credits show our hero on horseback, from behind and still injured, riding in the distance like some westerns.
